Even purchasing from an online store in your home country does not guarantee that returning a purchase will be painless. Take, for example, my recent purchase from their Toronto store of a Deep Blue Fleet Admiral. The markers for the day and 24 hour time were not lined up correctly when the watch arrived, therefore it was defective. I had to take pictures, identify the problem, and wait for permission to return the product, among other things. To make matters worse, I had to send the watch to be serviced in the United States. So, in a matter of days, I paid for shipping to buy the watch in Canada, paid for shipment to the United States, then had to pre-pay for shipping back to me. It was a very unpleasant experience.

Buying from a physical store doesn’t guarantee that you won’t have any issues; it only means that you’ll be able to get them resolved more quickly. I once bought a new Breitling from an authorised dealer and spent a significant amount of time making sure that all of the features functioned well, that there was no aesthetic damage, and that the watch fit my wrist well.
I observed substantial rate errors after a few days of wearing it. I went back to the dealer, explained the problem for a few minutes, and that was the end of it. Everything else was taken care of by them. After a few weeks, the watch was returned from the Breitling service centre, and everything was in working order. For me, there was no added cost or hassle.
